Cave Exploration

The Belilena Cave

Located 2000 feet above sea level, the Belilena Cave lies amidst picturesque environs close to Kitulagala. Recent archaeological excavations conducted at the cave have unearthed several fossils believed to be more than 32,000 years old.

Pahiangala Cave

No cave exploration in Sri Lanka would be complete without a visit to the Pahiangala Cave. The cave derives its name from Fa Hien, the famed Chinese explorer who had apparently sought refuge in the cave during his voyages in the 5th century AD.

Situated 400 feet above sea level, the cave overlooks an awesome mountain range and can easily provide shelter and accommodate more than 3000 people. It is considered to be the prehistoric dwelling place of the Homo sapiens, the earliest human beings who lived in Asia more than 37,000 years ago.

Mulkirigala Cave Temple Complex

Take a 20 to 30 minute journey inland from the southern coastal towns of Dikwella or Tangalle to arrive at the Mulkirigala, an awe-inspiring 210 metre high rock temple full of statues, sculptures, paintings and much more.

Also known as 'Little Sigiriya' and as 'Adam's Berg', Mulkirigala is a must-see attraction during your next cave exploration adventures in Sri Lanka.

Wavulpane Cave

Situated in the Kolonne Korale, about 912 feet above sea level the Wavulpane Cave consists of about 12 different sized caves. This superb limestone cavern is named after the nearly 250,000 bats that inhabit it.

The cave also boasts of having the richest percentage of Calcium Carbonate deposits in Sri Lanka. The magnificent stalactites and stalagmites are a cave explorer's paradise!

Saint Jeyalani Cave Mosque

The Saint Jeyalani Cave Mosque is sure to add in that bit of spiritual and mystical spice to your cave exploration adventures.

Situated in Kuragala, the mosque which has been built in memory of Saint Qutub Muhiyadeen Abdul Cader Jailany who visited the area more than 1000 years ago, is renowned for its healing powers.
