West and South Coast Beach

South of Colombo: - The world famous 'Gold Coast' with many excellent hotels and resorts runs from Mount Lavinia beach (near Colombo) along Wadduwa beach, Kaluthara beach, Beruwala beach, Benthota beach, Induruwa beach, Kosgoda beach, Ahungalla beach, Hikkaduwa beach, Galle beach, Unawatuna beach, Koggala beach, Weligama beach, Dickwella beach, Tangalle beach and Hambanthota beach on the south coast.

These picturesque beaches lie parallel to the Galle Road and can be seen while travelling south.

North of Colombo - Hendala beach, Negombo beach and Waikkal beach.

The above scenic beaches lie parallel to A2 north.

Relax and enjoy the calm surf, warm sunshine, tropical fish and tranquil bays and coves.

North and East Beaches

Season: February to mid October

Water Temperature: 27ºC (81ºF)

Locations

North of Trincomalee: Nilaveli beach, Kuchchaveli beach, Marble Bay beach, Sweat Bay beach and Dead Man's Cove beach.

South of Tricomalee: Pasikuda beach and Arugam Bay beach.

These beautiful beaches lie along Highways to the north and south after Batticaloa.

Unwind and enjoy the sun, surf and sand in a peaceful atmosphere. Take a swim in the pristine blue waters and admire the coral gardens or adventurous travellers can explore an undersea wreck. Experience the scenic splendour of deep natural harbours, bays, coves and lagoons.

Water Sports

Waterskiing, sailing, surfing, windsurfing, boating, wave boarding, canoeing, snorkelling, jet scooter racing, deep sea diving, exploring underwater wrecks, deep sea fishing, water gymnastics and water polo.

Seasonal sea bathing is offered by many hotels and resorts. Guests can also use the fresh or salt-water swimming pools and hot tub.

Qualified foreign and local individuals run training schools for water sports. Arrangements for water sports can also be made with the hotel or tour operator.

Indulge in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor games, such as billiards, draughts, chess, carom, table tennis, mini-golf, tennis, squash, beach volleyball, badminton and archery.
