Excursions:

Galapata Vihara
This temple dates back to the 12th century. It was linked by a maze of subterranean tunnels with all the other temples in the area - traces of which can still be seen.

Kalutara Vihara
This large Buddhist temple is an essential stop-off for motorists, who say a prayer and make offerings for a safe journey. The temple is the only one of its kind that has a hollow interior with beautiful murals adorning its walls.

Brief Garden
This private garden of Sri Lanka's foremost landscapist, Bevis Bava, is well worth a visit. The terraced lawns have a number of interesting and rare plants. The house at the end of the garden has a large collection of antiques.

Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery
Wild turtle eggs deposited on the beaches of Kosgoda are collected and kept for safe keeping at the Hatchery. Once hatched, the young turtles are then released to the seas. This hatchery plays a vital role in ensuring the continuation of the species.

Hikkaduwa
The seas at Hikkaduwa are ideal for viewing beautiful coral gardens. Either dive down to explore the coral reef first hand or take a ride in a glass bottom boat if you wish to stay dry.
